Miners Foundry and Late-Nite Productions are proud to present a 420 Celebration with the Long Beach Dub Allstars on Saturday, April 20, 2024. The bar and doors open at 6pm; the show begins at 7pm. Tickets are available at Ticketweb.com for the 16+. We bring you yet another 420 celebration you’ll actually remember! This year we’re bringing you the legendary Long Beach Dub Allstars, legends of the West Coast Cali reggae scene. Ahhhh ya!!
Today’s generation of reggae-rock fans may not fully understand how critical this group was to the reggae-rock genre, following Sublime’s conclusion in 1996. They played at a time when social media was non-existent. Live-videos of their early performances are mostly of grainy VHS quality, while most live-photos shot by fans were with throw-away cameras. There was no YouTube, Facebook, and this was before Myspace or even iTunes. They were the torch bearers of a genre that Sublime introduced and the original ‘Dub Allstars lineup included most of the players who were involved in cultivating that Reggae-Rock sound with Brad Nowell. Seeing them reunite and perform new music after a 15-year absence is exciting. Together these musical professors and legends from Long Beach have engineered a new studio album that adds to the legacy of Long Beach Dub Allstars. 25 years later the band has found its resurgence with Opie Ortiz (vocals), Miguel Happoldt (guitar), Tim Wu (horns) joined by Roger Rivas (keys), Ed Kampwirth (bass) and Gil Sharone (drums).
They’ll also be joined by the Black Cinderella herself — Sister Carol! — an electrifying Grammy-nominated and award winning reggae veteran from Jamaica. This 420, she’ll be throwin’ down her heartfelt and lyrical roots vibrations for Nevada County!
An International Superstar, she has toured the globe from her birthplace in Jamaica. After receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from City College in New York in 1983 she set out on her musical career and has produced nineteen albums over the past 40 years. Alongside Sister Carol’s musical career, she has appeared in several movies directed by the late Jonathan Demme. Something Wild 1987, Married to the Mob 1988, Rachel’s getting married 2009 and Ricki and the Flash in 2015. She has shared the silver screen with Hollywood darlings such as Melanie Griffiths, Michelle Pfiffer, Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep, Matthew Modine, Dean Stockwell, Ray Liotta, and Jeff Daniels. Several of her songs have also been featured in movies such as The Mighty Quinn (Principle) Failure to Launch (Original Drum), Something Wild (Wild Thing) Rachel’s Getting Married (Dread Natty Congo) and Ricki and the Flash (Milk and Honey). She continues to march to her own beat blazing trails celebrating 41 years in the music industry. Her virtuous vibes remain stronger than ever……
Warming up the show with be Lizano from Reno, NV plus Ras Matthew and Squarefield Massive from Sacramento, Ca. The Vibes in Nevada City are guaranteed to be high for this 4/20 Celebration!
